Think back to those afternoons when the kitchen table became a makeshift studio. That is where my journey began. I remember sitting with my mom and my Bama, surrounded by fabric scraps and thread. What we were making didn’t really matter. Sometimes it was a pillowcase, sometimes a dress, but the magic was in the making itself. It wasn’t about following a pattern or getting it right. It was about the rhythm of the work, the conversations that unfolded, and the feeling that something ordinary was being transformed into something new. That is what hooked me. The act of creating became a way to slow down, to process life, and to connect.

Huckleberry Gems was born from that same place. What started with a simple love of making soon grew into a desire to help other women discover their own creative voice. In the early days, that looked like local paint parties and crafting nights where the laughter was loud, and no one cared about the mess. It was about being together and giving ourselves permission to play.

As the business grew, so did my vision. I began to see that crafting is about much more than finished pieces or polished projects. It can be a tool for well-being, a practice for grounding ourselves, and a way to reconnect with parts of ourselves that everyday life often leaves behind. This is what led me to expand beyond wood kits and into digital workshops, mixed media, and art journaling. I wanted to create a space where women could explore creativity in ways that feel personal and nourishing.
